As the world enters its second year of pandemic-led crisis fighting, the European commissioner for health and food safety and one of the world’s leading public-health specialists join forces for this Special Briefing: What Pandemics Mean, How You Fight Them – and How You Can Ultimately Win. They will be joined in conversation by an eclectic group of European public-health specialists, hospital administrators, front-line policymakers and concerned citizens to take stock of recent progress – and evaluate the outlook for tomorrow. About Prof Nicholas A. Christakis, MD, PhD, MPH As one of America’s most well-known doctors and public-health specialists, Prof Christakis has advised state governments and municipalities throughout the crisis on pandemic containing strategies. Paul Farmer, professor of medicine at Harvard, called Apollo’s Arrow, Prof Christakis’ ground-breaking book, “definitive, engaging and astonishing. A tour de force.” William D. Nordhaus, 2018 Nobel Laureate in economics, says Apollo’s Arrow “explains the scientific and social aspects of the coronavirus pandemic” and adds “one is tempted to say the gods created Christakis to write this book at this time. It is wise, vivid and engaging.” In August 2020, The Economist published a lengthy excerpt from Apollo’s Arrow in its “By Invitation” section.
