Quality Assurance System

SWISS UMEF has, since 1984, introduced quality culture in all aspects of its activities. Since the new management, in 2010, major improvements have been made with respect to quality in the various aspects of the operations. Thus, it has led it to obtain several national and international accreditations and certifications, in particular, the Swiss Federal Institutional Accreditation. This embodies our shared values, practices, and aspirations for continuous advancement. Within this context, we explore how SWISS UMEF instils and nurtures a pervasive quality culture that drives our pursuit of excellence.

The quality assurance department is a vital component of SWISS UMEF. All stakeholders, both internal and external, are involved so as to improve towards excellence.

Objectives of the Quality Assurance

The Quality Assurance Strategy aims to ensure the continuous improvement and excellence of academic and administrative processes, aligning with both national and international standards, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our strategy is focused on fostering a culture of quality throughout the institution, with the ultimate goal of enhancing student learning outcomes, staff performance, and institutional reputation, and contributing to sustainable development. The key objectives, in accordance with the SWISS UMEF strategic plan, are integrated with the relevant SDGs, as follows:

1. Ensure academic excellence

Establish and maintain rigorous academic standards across all programmes. This involves continuous evaluation and updating of curricula and course content to meet industry needs, and emerging global trends in education, while also ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all in line with SDG 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

2. Promote high-quality teaching and learning

Facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty to enhance pedagogical skills and ensure the use of best practice, student-centred teaching methods and applied research. Regular assessments will be conducted to measure teaching effectiveness, ensuring alignment with desired learning outcomes and contributing to sustainable human capital development, also aligned with SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.

3. Enhance student satisfaction

Ensure an efficient support system for students, including academic advising, career counselling, and accessible learning resources. Regular feedback mechanisms are in place to capture student satisfaction levels and identify areas for improvement, fostering an inclusive learning environment that promotes lifelong learning and success.

4. Strengthen governance

Maintain transparent and effective governance structures to support decision-making and operational efficiency. This includes regular audits of administrative processes, ensuring compliance with regulations and enhancing workflows while contributing to accountable and inclusive institutions, also aligned with SDG 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. SDG 5: Achieve gender equality.

5. Achieve and maintain accreditations

Proactively pursue and maintain national and international accreditations to enhance the institution’s credibility. This includes adhering to the standards set by accrediting bodies and continuously improving to meet and exceed these benchmarks, which also contributes to the development of a high-quality educational institution in line with SDG 4.

6. Foster a culture of continuous improvement

Maintain a dynamic quality assurance system that encourages ongoing improvement. Utilise data collection and analysis systems to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), driving strategic decision-making and policy adjustments. This data-driven approach ensures efficiency and effectiveness across the institution, supporting sustainable development and promoting economic growth in line with SDG 8.

Mission of quality assurance

To ensure that every aspect of the educational experience, SWISS UMEF has high standards of academic excellence, diversity, inclusion, quality, societal impact, and SDG 4, 5, 8, and 16. Its commitment to excellence is reflected in an environment conducive to learning, research, and service, supported by talented faculty, modern infrastructure, relevant academic programmes, research integration, strategic marketing, accreditations, and efficient resource management. SWISS UMEF strives to transform challenges into opportunities, dreams into achievements, and to remain the first choice in private higher education institutions in Geneva.

In pursuit of this mission, SWISS UMEF has defined specific objectives for each key area, including faculty recruitment and development, campus facilities enhancement, academic development, research integration, strategic marketing, accreditations, and resource management.

These objectives are accompanied by concrete measures and actions, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess progress, and evaluation mechanisms to ensure that SWISS UMEF continually progresses towards excellence. The involvement of all stakeholders, including faculty, students, administration, alumni, and representatives from the business community, is crucial in this process of continuous improvement.
